2011 Yunnan

Overview

In the summer of 2011, Love Across the Coast organized our second summer camp at Huaping Middle School (华坪县民族中学)in Huaping County, a small town in the mountainous area of Yunnan Province, China. During the three-week camp, 15 volunteer teachers and mentors worked closely with 100 students in seminars and collaborative group activities.

Volunteers

15 volunteers, including 4 members from Love Across the Coast summer camp committee, participated in the program. All volunteers are currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students, from US, Canadian or Chinese universities. Representative schools include: Mount Holyoke College, Oberlin College, University of British Columbia, Chinese Academy of Sciences (中国科学院), East China Normal University (华东师范大学), Luxun Academy of Fine Arts (鲁迅美术学院), Renmin University of China (中国人民大学), and Zhejiang University (浙江大学).

Other exciting summer camp activities include: English workshops, Health Knowledge Talks, TED Nights, Movie Nights, Storytelling Nights, Tai-Chi sessions, music sessions, origami workshops, logic competitions, mock debates, science experiments, and a mini cross-campus orienteering.
